Angola: President gets message from Botswana counterpart

Luanda, ANGOLA, March 10 - A message from Botswana President Ian Khama was delivered Friday in Luanda to the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço. ,

 

The letter was delivered by Botswana's Foreign Minister Pelonomi Venson-Motoi during an audience granted by President João Lourenço.

 

At the end of the meeting, the top diplomat told the press that the audience addressed issues of bilateral interest.

 

According to him, they focused mainly on Okavango Basin's cross-border development project that engages Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

The project is meant to boost the internationalisation and promotion of tourism in the region, as well as cultural industries and sustainable development of local communities.

 

On the other hand, João Lourenço was briefed on difficulties faced by the secretariat of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.

This was during a meeting with the executive secretary of the regional organisation, Florentina Ukanga.

 

Among the difficulties experienced by the organisation, the official stressed the lack of infrastructure to ensure the functioning of the commission, coupled with the lack of the payment of quotas by the member states.

 

Florentina Ukanga highlighted the efforts made by Angolan authorities  for keeping up with their fees.

 

The president also granted audience to the United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Said Djinnit.

 

The two interlocutors addressed the situation in the region, with stress to the Framework Agreement for Cooperation, Peace and Security in the Zone.
