US recommends creation of environmental conservation group

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 2 - The Angolan Parliament has been recommended to set up an informal commission to handle matters linked to the conservation of the environment and sustainable development. ,

The recommendation came from the US Congress ICCF Group that offered to support the project and highlighted the importance of creating such informal conservation bodies.

According to the head of the ICCF Group, John B. Gantt, informal environmental groups exist in countries like Colombia, Mexico, Peru, USA and Mozambique.

The official was speaking at the end of a meeting with the Angolan Parliament’s deputy vice speaker, Higino Carneiro, and members of other specialised bodies.

He explained that the aim of such groups is to discuss matters linked to environment and sustainable development.

John B. Gantt said the US assistance will focus on the conservation of the environment and matters linked to the subsistence of the populations.

The ICCF Group undertakes projects connected to environment and promotion and protection of biodiversity in  African countries like Kenya, Botswana and Namibia, including the Okavango Delta region.

Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe launched in 2017 the Okavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Area Conservation Project, seeking to make the continent’s southern Africa the greatest and best tourist destination.

Another purpose of the ICCF Group’s visit to Angola is to prepare a visit by a US Congress delegation meant to start a cooperation with the Angolan Parliament and seek foreign private investment.
